ORGANIZING TIPS
Betty Arnold

1.   Procrastination
Organizers define procrastination as a decision postponed. Recognize the difference between an appropriate decision to delay, and an irrational postponement without justification.

2.   Do it now
As you walk through a room pick up things that are out of place and return them to their homes.

3.   Be creative
Convert closet shelves to drawers or open bins. Group like items together and label them for easy retrieval.

4.   Containerize
Create order by using attractive containers for frequently used items. A basket for remotes in the family room, a box for outgoing mail in the foyer.

5.   Keepsakes
Release large, abundant memorabilia by taking pictures or making a treasure chest. It’s the memory that you want to preserve.

6.   Calendar & planner
Use one. The calendar is for appointments and the planner for your to-do list and everything else you need to remember.

7.   Reading material
Use magazine files instead of stacking them. Keep only two months’ worth or less and when a new issue arrives, toss the oldest even if you haven’t read it.

8.   Menus
Plan your meals for the entire week and shop once a week for all of the items you need. It saves time, gas and trips to the market.

9.   Donate
Keep a donation container in your garage. As you come across things you no longer use, need or wear place them in the container. Donate monthly.

10. Make it fun
Keep it small, simple and specific and then you will enjoy the process.
